Indexing Policy Overview
The purpose of indexing at Gale Group is to help users locate information that has appeared in journals, magazines, newspapers, and other publications. Indexers identify the major topics of an article and express them using consistent, controlled vocabulary and coding systems. These systems consist of subject and sub-topic headings, product, event, and geographical codes and names, and names of people, places, companies, products, and organizations. Each indexing system is designed to offer you the most flexible search options for retrieving the types of information included in each database.
The editorial policies developed by Gale Group match the editorial focus of each database. The policies help to keep indexing standards high which in turn yields consistent, quality databases for customers. To review specific Gale Group editorial policies, select the topic of interest to you from the menu above.
