Healthcare

Coverage

InSite Pro provides a broad array of healthcare related information. To identify specific publications covering this topic, refer to the publication lists by industry and look at the healthcare category. The databases used most often to locate healthcare-oriented information are: PROMT, Trade & Industry Database, Newsletter Database, and Magazine Database.

Database Rationale

PROMT: If any word could describe the current state of healthcare it would have to be change. PROMT is a major resource for anyone tracking these important changes and analyzing their impact on a local, national and global level. Its content will enable you to monitor key issues like the growth of HMOs and PPOs, hospital closures, legislative proposals, medical research and its business repercussions, cost and budgetary considerations.

Trade & Industry Database includes a strong vocabulary of standardized terms covering the healthcare industry. Examples include subject terms for "managed care plans" and "health maintenance organizations" and sub-topics like analysis and statistics that focus in on the subject very effectively.

It is also possible to identify company profile records that contain key data elements about a company i.e. annual sales, number of employees, etc. Search the name of a company as a Browse Thesaurus search and choose the record for the company that includes "Company Directory Record" to the right of the name.

Newsletter Database was designed without extensive indexing to enable the timely inclusion of full text newsletter articles within 48 hours of receipt from the publisher. But fewer search options can translate into a straightforward and simple process for locating information.

Maximum retrieval will be achieved by conducting a search using the "free text" option. To be more precise, conduct a search for words only in the title of an article. For even more limited results, restrict your search to an industry category that represents a group of newsletters that focus exclusively on the particular subject being investigated.

Magazine Database: The healthcare industry is especially sensitive to public opinion and political initiatives. Any intelligence tracking process will benefit from attention to these consumer-related issues.

Magazine Database follows the same form as Trade & Industry Database with its subjects and sub-topics. Fielded search options like "named person" make it easy to identify suitable background information to supplement any search.

Health & Wellness Database is designed to address the needs of a wide range of professionals, researchers and consumers seeking a general understanding of important health issues and practices both at home and in the workplace. Almost 200 of the world’s leading professional and consumer health publications, pamphlets, easy-to-read overviews of diseases and medical conditions published by Clinical Reference Systems Ltd., and six medical reference books are included in the database.

Health & Wellness Database features special sub-topics to help increase the precision of a search. In addition, every publication is assigned a "target audience" that focuses a search on either consumer-oriented health information or professional medical information, and a "publication type" that can be used to limit a search to magazines, journals, newspapers, dictionaries, newsletters, pamphlets or reference books.

Case Study

Escalating healthcare costs impact everyone's personal and professional life. The human resources director of a company wants to monitor the ongoing issues surrounding the effort to control healthcare costs. He is particularly interested in managed care solutions to the current crisis. Is managed care really lowering what his company pays in healthcare costs or just diminishing patient services? How can he decide if he should switch the managed care provider currently being used by his organization? Should he add a plan that would cover the cost of prescriptions? What is the ongoing status of President Clinton's effort to create a national health plan that would provide medical services for everyone in the U.S.?
